A Historic Landmark in Small-Town Iowa

This charming gas station from the 1960s has been renewed to showcase its unique past while offering a glimpse into the golden age of American motoring.

ABOUT THE STATION
Built in 1927. Restored to 1960s glory. Preserved for future generations.
Built in 1927 from plans provided by Standard Oil Company, this station is a charming example of early automotive service architecture. For over five decades, it served local motorists with pride—offering friendly, full-service attention from uniformed attendants who cleaned windshields, checked oil, and pumped gas.
From 1927 to its final day in 1983, it operated as a Standard Oil franchise, proudly featuring Standard and Atlas automotive products. For more than 50 of those years, the Pottorff family ran the station with dedication and care.
In 2013, preservationist Dan Hutchings purchased the building. After five years of meticulous restoration, it now appears just as it did in 1960—down to the pumps, signage, and charm.
